- The leadership rivalry within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has escalated, with two factions led by Tanimu Turaki and Nyesom Wike claiming legitimacy for the upcoming 2027 general elections. Both factions held separate events in Abuja, unveiling candidates and expressing confidence that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would recognize their nominees.
Wike emphasized the need for party members to actively reclaim power through organization and mobilization, urging them not to come to the table empty-handed. Meanwhile, Turaki declared their faction had nominated candidates for all elective positions, boasting of rigorous candidate evaluations. The PDP’s planned actions coincide with INEC’s imminent distribution of access codes for candidate submissions, which both factions hope will affirm their leadership claims.
