The governor gave the assurance at the Ogun East Senatorial District stakeholders’ meeting in Ijebu-Ode, where he met with representatives of various interest groups to discuss traditional affairs, community concerns and development in the area.

Abiodun, through a statement issued by his media adviser, Kayode Akinmade, urged residents to remain calm and patient while the necessary procedures for selecting the next monarch are being concluded.

He acknowledged the importance of the Awujale institution to the cultural heritage, identity and unity of Ijebuland, stressing that his administration was committed to ensuring a peaceful, smooth and widely accepted succession process.

According to the governor, the objective is to ensure that the emergence of the next Awujale receives the acceptance and support of the people.

The Awujale stool became vacant in July 2025 following the death of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, who died at the age of 91 after reigning for 65 years.

The selection process has faced delays following government interventions, petitions and disagreements surrounding the procedure. In September 2026, members of the Fusengbuwa ruling house, which is next in line to produce the monarch, called for a fresh selection exercise.

The governor’s latest assurance has renewed expectations among residents and stakeholders who have been waiting for a successor to the late monarch.

However, no new Awujale has been officially announced, and the selection and installation process must still follow the applicable laws and traditional procedures.
