The Kano State Hospitals Management Board has suspended three officers involved in the death of Aishatu Umar, a mother of five, attributed to alleged medical negligence following surgery at the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre, Kano. This suspension is effective immediately, as confirmed by the Board’s Public Relations Officer, Samira Suleiman. The decision arose after a preliminary investigation ordered by Executive Secretary Mansur Mudi Nagoda, which determined that the incident indeed occurred at the facility.

In accordance with its commitment to accountability and patient safety, the Board has referred the matter to the Kano State Medical Ethical Committee for further investigation and potential disciplinary action, adhering to relevant laws and ethical standards. The Board expressed its condolences to Umar’s family and emphasized its dedication to preventing negligence in healthcare settings.

Umar suffered severe abdominal pain for months after the surgery performed in September 2025, leading to her death around 1am on Tuesday, as reported by her family member, Mohammed, who shared their grief via Facebook. The Board reassured the public of its resolve to uphold professional standards and enhance monitoring in state health facilities to avoid such tragic events in the future.
