A tragic road accident on Sunday, November 16, 2025, has left one woman dead and six others seriously injured along Ikorodu Road, sparking grief and concern over road safety in the area.

According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the crash occurred in the early hours around Majidun, inward Ogolonto, directly opposite a local MRS filling station.

The incident involved a Volkswagen commercial bus (registration number EPE 494 XM) and a stationary tipper truck that was reportedly parked by the roadside to buy diesel.

Preliminary investigations by LASTMA suggest that the bus, which was headed for an event in Ogijo, experienced a sudden brake failure. Witnesses say the driver was speeding before losing control and violently crashing into the parked truck.

The crash had devastating consequences: an adult female passenger died instantly, while five other women and one man sustained life-threatening injuries. The injured were rushed to Benic Special Hospital for emergency care, while the remains of the deceased were taken to Ikorodu General Hospital for formal documentation.

In a swift response, LASTMA operatives arrested both the bus driver and the tipper truck driver, who allegedly tried to flee the scene. They have since been handed over to the Ipakodo Police Division for further investigation.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, offering condolences to the bereaved family and wishing the injured a speedy recovery. He used the incident to urge all road users to drive responsibly, warning that overspeeding reduces a driver’s ability to react to sudden mechanical failures.
