After serving his jail sentence for sexually abusing a juvenile, Nollywood star Olanrewaju James, better known by his stage name Baba Ijesha, has been added to the Lagos State Sex Offenders Register, according to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency.

Our eyewitness saw a widely shared but unconfirmed video on Saturday that showed the actor sitting in a car soon after his release, looking relieved and stating that he needed to recuperate.

The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, SAN, denied that the actor had been exonerated by the Court of Appeal in the update from the Lagos State Government report.

Pedro emphasized that the conviction is still in effect and called the circulating allegations “false, misleading, and irresponsible.”

The Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency reiterated the government’s stance in a post published on X on Sunday, citing the Attorney-General’s statement that “Mr. Olanrewaju James was not cleared of the offences of sexual assault and indecent treatment of a child.”

Actor Yomi Fabiyi’s claims were “wholly untrue and capable of alarming the public,” he cautioned.
The Attorney-General warned Fabiyi and any platform endorsing the claims to stop right away and urged Lagos citizens and the general public to ignore the fake stories.

“His name has been duly entered into the Lagos State Sex Offenders Register in accordance with Section 37 of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency Law 2021,” the agency continued.

“This measure supports ongoing efforts to ensure that the public has access to accurate information, strengthen accountability, and protect minors.”

In a live Instagram session on Saturday, November 15, 2025, comedian and actress Damilola Adekoya, often known as Princess, had previously urged the state government and the Ministry of Justice to add the actor’s name to the register.
