On December 14, 2025, bandits broke into the church during a service and kidnapped around 38 congregants, including women, children, and old people. The attackers then allegedly demanded millions of naira as ransom.
Seven kidnappees were freed over the weekend following “painful ransom payments,” according to the community’s spokesperson, Mr. David Ampitan.

In order to secure the release of the other 31 kidnappees and prevent a worsening humanitarian situation, he called for immediate action.

The Kogi State Government responded by reiterating its dedication to a persistent campaign against criminal elements.
