In a notice shared on its official social media platforms, INEC clarified that the publication did not originate from them and labeled it as FAKE. The commission emphasized the importance of verifying election-related information through its official communication channels to avoid misinformation.

INEC provided its official website, inecnigeria.org, along with its verified social media accounts (@inecnigeria on X and Instagram, and INEC Nigeria on Facebook), as resources for accurate updates. The warning was issued shortly after the release of the final lists of candidates for the governorship elections set for February 6, 2027. Reports indicate that notable candidates, such as Ladi Adebutu from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State and Isa Pantami in Gombe State, were absent from the lists, although no explanations were given for these omissions.

As preparations for the upcoming elections progress, INEC continues to urge the public to depend exclusively on its official platforms for truthful information regarding candidates and electoral activities, thereby reinforcing the message against reliance on misleading announcements.
