- Kenneth Okonkwo and Peter Obi
In an explanation of why his friendship with Obi had soured after their split from the Labour Party and the ensuing political events leading up to the 2027 election, Okonkwo made the statement.
He claims that a person’s stance might change due to shifting political conditions, and that failing to adjust could be considered inconsistent. He clarified that his endorsement of Obi was predicated on the platform and conditions at the moment.
As a Labour Party member and the party’s presidential candidate, I supported him. He stated, “There was no agreement that I should follow him wherever he goes because I don’t have a contract to fall into a pit with him if he does.”
Okonkwo went on to say that his evaluation of Obi had changed since, in his opinion, the political platform, facts, and circumstances surrounding the former governor of Anambra State had also changed.
“So, the person you’re seeing now is completely different from the person I campaigned for, different platform from what I’ve heard, different human being,” he remarked. Obi, who had previously been a member of the opposition alliance under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), was the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election before leaving the party to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Obi’s intention to leave the coalition and run for president on the NDC platform in 2027 has been frequently challenged by Okonkwo, a chieftain and spokesperson for the ADC presidential campaign.
