The Delta State Internal Revenue Service (DSIRS) has issued a warning to taxpayers regarding individuals who are fraudulently issuing fake tax demand notices and illegally collecting revenue under the pretense of representing the state government. Chairman Solomon Ighrakpata emphasized the risk posed by these fraudsters, indicating that their actions could lead to significant revenue leakages and financial losses for genuine taxpayers.

Ighrakpata clarified that the DSIRS has not authorized any person or agent to issue tax demand notices or collect taxes outside of the service’s approved channels. He urged taxpayers and businesses to verify the authenticity of any demand notices, tax assessments, or payment requests before proceeding to make any payments. To prevent falling victim to these scams, he advised the public to utilize only officially sanctioned government payment channels and to report any suspicious tax demands or individuals claiming to be DSIRS officials.

The chairman also noted that the DSIRS is collaborating with law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute those engaged in the distribution of fake tax notices, impersonation, and other forms of fraudulent revenue collection. He cautioned that such criminal activities could erode public confidence in the state’s tax system and redirect funds intended for government projects and public services. Ighrakpata reassured taxpayers that the DSIRS is committed to maintaining the integrity of the state’s revenue collection framework while fostering a transparent and accountable tax administration system.
