Her appointment was officially announced during a plenary session on Monday, following a reshuffle in the assembly’s leadership, which included the resignation of Blessing Agbebaku as Speaker due to alleged impeachment attempts. Yekini Idaiyi, representing the Akoko Edo II Constituency, has taken over as Speaker.
Osawaru, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), previously held the position of Deputy Majority Leader before this elevation. In response to her new role, she emphasized her view of the position as a significant responsibility rather than a mere title, asserting her dedication to her constituents and to the development of Edo State. She expressed her commitment on her Facebook page, stating, “This new responsibility is not a title; it is a trust,” and highlighted the importance of rigorous debate and accountability in democracy.
In her statement, Osawaru reiterated her unwavering commitment to her constituency, her party, and the state’s overall progress. She pointed out that her leadership role reflects the trust placed in her by her colleagues and constituents, given her distinguished previous service in the assembly. Furthermore, the statement characterized her ability to lead effectively as transcending partisan divides.
Osawaru’s personal life also garnered attention as she married 2Baba in July 2025 after his separation from Annie Macaulay Idibia. The couple welcomed their first child together in February, marking a significant milestone in their family life.
