His club, Berekum Chelsea FC, revealed in a statement that heavily armed masked attackers opened fire on the team’s bus, forcing players to flee and hide in nearby bushes for safety.

Authorities reported that the incident happened around 10:30 pm local time along the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso road in the Nyinahin District of the Ashanti Region in southern Ghana.

According to police, Frimpong suffered gunshot injuries during the нападение and later died in the hospital while receiving treatment.

Police also confirmed that another victim, George Owusu Afriyie, aged 52, was robbed of 4,500 cedis (about $408) during the attack.

The Ghana Football Association described the incident as “deeply tragic,” noting it is not only a major loss for Berekum Chelsea but also a painful blow to football in Ghana.

“Dominic was a talented young player whose passion and commitment reflected the true spirit of the league,” the association said.

The 20-year-old striker had joined Berekum Chelsea FC on loan from Aduana Stars FC earlier this year.

He featured in 13 matches and scored two goals for the team, according to reports from Naija Street Matters.
