Shadrack Apos (30), Lucky Akpos (33), and Adunola Precious (24) were found guilty of robbing an 87-year-old grandmother of N186,000 and a wristwatch.

They were charged with two counts of conspiracy and armed robbery, which led to their arraignment and trial.

“On June 12, 2024, at Ifaki Ekiti, the defendants did conspire to rob one Victoria Folorunso of the cash sum of N147,000 and a wristwatch,” the charge states. “At the time of the robbery, they were armed with a gun and planks, contrary to Sections 421 and 321 (2) (b) of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.”

“I was sleeping around 1am when I suddenly saw two persons in my room, one holding and pointing a gun at my forehead while the second person held a plank,” the 87-year-old victim testified in court. I was instructed to bring every penny I had in the house. They assisted me in getting the N100,000 I had there and the additional N47,000 I had in my underwear off of my mattress, which was where I stored the cash. My children gave me a wristwatch, which they stole.

They took my phone as well, but they gave it back to me. I informed them I had N3 million in my account when they threatened to shoot me. They told me to take the money out the next day and give it to my housekeeper, Precious Adunola, so she could deliver it to them by 11 a.m. They were interacting openly with my housekeeper, they didn’t breach the door, and they didn’t wear masks.
They threatened to kidnap and kill me if I told anyone. After I took too long to send the money to them, they called and threatened me. I told my kids over the phone later,” she said.

While the defendants spoke through their attorneys, Oluwatoyin Marcus and Mitchel Aribisala, the prosecutor, Kunle-Shina Adeyemo, called two witnesses and presented the defendant’s statements, search warrant, and wooden gun as exhibits. Each of them summoned one witness.

The three defendants were convicted guilty of conspiracy and murder by Justice Lekan Ogunmoye.

“My earlier findings that the third defendant, Adunola Precious, must have opened the door to enable the robbers to have seamless entry into the house she was sharing with the victim aptly demonstrated her own pivotal role in the plan to rob the victim,” Ogunmoye stated.

Therefore, it is evident from the credible evidence presented to the court that the prosecution was able to prove that the defendants had planned and consented to rob the victim on June 12, 2024. Thus, the defendants were found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of conspiracy and armed robbery.

In this court, they are also found guilty and convicted as charged.
The first, second, and third defendants will be executed by hanging by the neck. The judge declared, “May God have mercy on their souls.”
