POTENTIAL INVESTORS ARE MISINFORMED BY THE DANGOTE AND LABOUR IMPASSE, ACCORDING TO MAN

The present standoff between Dangote Refinery and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) may give the wrong impression to prospective investors, according to a warning from the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN).

Segun Ajayi-Kadir, MAN’s director general, made this announcement during a media briefing on Tuesday regarding the organization’s upcoming 53rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Lagos.

“It is very regrettable that we are sending this signal to the international community,” he said. It is mind-boggling and something we shouldn’t let fester if a corporation the size of Dangote Refinery is being treated this way, with one issue after another, by truck drivers, regulatory bodies, and now PENGASSAN, for a $20 billion investment.

“How would anyone wish to enter this nation and make a significant investment after witnessing what has been done to the Dangote Refinery?”

Ajayi-Kadir suggested that the government intervene and make sure that the law was upheld.

“Take care of the labor issue you have with an organization. You are closing down the nation because of a disagreement, yet there are legal procedures.  Companies who depend on gas will not be able to obtain gas due to the current circumstances. And the consequences are obvious: manufacturers will be unable to produce, and their production schedules will probably be shortened.

They may eventually lose market share to imported goods that are not experiencing this kind of disruption since they will be unable to get their items to market. Francis Meshioye, the president of MAN, stated that the next 53rd AGM of the association will offer a great opportunity to further discuss the “Nigeria First” Policy, which he defined as a firm plan to give preference to locally produced goods and services.

In his own words: “This year’s AGM theme, “Nigeria First: Prioritizing Patronage of Made in Nigeria,” highlights our steadfast conviction that putting an emphasis on local production is the most reliable way to achieve sustainable growth, create jobs, and advance the country.”

The event will take place in the Lagos Oriental Hotel on Victoria Island, Lagos, from Tuesday, October 14 to Thursday, October 16, 2025.  President Bola Tinubu and George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, are anticipated to attend the three-day event as dignitaries. Aliko Dangote will serve as the guest speaker.
