From a previous pool of 50 nominations who were assessed by an impartial team of judges between March and April 2025, KPMG Nigeria, the official audit partner for the 2025 edition, created the shortlist.
A total of 638 entries were received during the nomination window in January and February, from which those 50 nominees were chosen.
The ultimate Top 10 Honorees will be determined in large part by public voting, with public votes accounting for 40% of the total score and judges’ evaluations for 60%, according to Yetunde Oyeyipo, Chairperson of the 2025 JCI TOYP Committee. Voting will end at 11:59 PM WAT on Tuesday, August 6, 2025, after opening at 6:30 PM WAT on Monday, July 28.
As part of the United Nations International Youth Day celebrations, the final 10 honorees will get formal recognition at an awards ceremony on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at the EKO Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Oluwatoyin Atanda, the 2025 president of JCI Nigeria, spoke at the unveiling event and emphasized the program’s importance in honoring young people who are bringing about change around the nation.
“These outstanding people are leading innovation, shattering stereotypes, and contributing significantly to a variety of industries,” she stated. “They are the epitome of national service and true leadership.”
The JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World Program, whose ultimate honorees will be revealed during the 2025 JCI World Congress in Tunis this November, is expected to nominate several of this year’s awardees for international recognition, Atanda continued.
Seven Nigerians have received international recognition before turning 40 since the start of the global program, including media legend Ray Ekpu (1988), Dr. Modupe Osho (1996), and health-tech entrepreneur Temie Giwa-Tubosun (2021).
