Martins Iluyomade, the agency’s Director of Investigation and Enforcement, revealed this while discussing current NAFDAC information on the counterfeit trade.According to Iluyomade, investigations revealed that some foreign nationals who were allegedly involved in counterfeiting were now setting up logistics networks and manufacturing facilities in Nigeria to create and sell counterfeit goods locally.

“In the past, you had to travel to China in order to bring a fake product. They’re here with us now,” he remarked.

“They identify moving products, send samples to China, and distribute them locally through logistics companies they own,” he continued. Iluyomade claims that NAFDAC has started the methodical shutdown of illicit logistical facilities purportedly run by foreigners connected to the counterfeit network. Concerns about the spread of hazardous and inferior consumer goods, such as tainted toothpaste, tainted bottled water, counterfeit cosmetics, and unhealthy dairy products, are raised by this development.

Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, the Director-General of NAFDAC, stated that during coordinated enforcement operations in Lagos and the Southeast, the organization had seized and destroyed regulated goods valued at over N1.5 trillion.

Adeyeye also said that between June 2025 and June 2026, 64 counterfeiters were convicted as a result of the enforcement action; the agency described this as the greatest number ever recorded.

According to her, one of the convictions led to an operator of an illicit beverage laboratory being sentenced to five years in jail in December.  NAFDAC further said that many individuals detained in the states of Kano, Sokoto, Delta, and Anambra for allegedly importing and distributing counterfeit dental care items were the subject of current legal procedures in federal courts.
The government declared that it would keep stepping up its enforcement and monitoring efforts to stop the manufacture, sale, and distribution of unwholesome and counterfeit goods in the nation.
