Kvaratskhelia, Dembele and Marquinhos out injured after PSG’s win

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) faces a significant challenge following their impressive Champions League victory against Barcelona, as they are set to lose three key players due to injuries. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has suffered a major setback with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear in his right knee, rendering him unavailable for several months.

This injury occurred during the match when Kvaratskhelia awkwardly landed after attempting to tackle Xavi Espart, leading to severe pain and the need for impending surgery, as confirmed by PSG in an official statement.

In addition to Kvaratskhelia, both Ousmane Dembele and captain Marquinhos have been sidelined with thigh muscle injuries sustained during the game. Dembele experienced discomfort in the back of his left thigh early in the match and had to come off shortly after, while Marquinhos, who is 32 years old, also suffered a thigh injury. The severity of their injuries means they are expected to miss several weeks of action.

Dembele, who earned the Ballon d’Or last year, has a history of injuries, which have affected his performance both at PSG and previously at Barcelona. Last season, he managed to play 50 games, achieving a noteworthy feat in his career, yet he has been handled cautiously by coach Luis Enrique this season to mitigate further injury risk.

PSG’s upcoming match is against Lyon in Ligue 1, where both teams presently hold equal points at the top of the league table. The absence of Kvaratskhelia, Dembele, and Marquinhos could prove pivotal as PSG attempts to maintain their strong start in the competition following their recent win of 4-2 against the defending champions in the Champions League.
