Fenerbahçe have reportedly lodged a complaint against Galatasaray over the protective mask worn by Victor Osimhen, claiming it could pose a danger to other players, Naija Street Maters reports.

The 27-year-old came on for a brief 13-minute appearance in Galatasaray’s cup loss to Gençlerbirliği S.K., playing with his arm bandaged beneath a long-sleeved shirt.

With Galatasaray set to face Fenerbahçe in a crucial league clash on Sunday, reports suggest the yellow-and-navy side have taken issue with Osimhen’s protective gear and have escalated the matter to the Turkish Football Federation.

According to Turkish outlet HT Spor, Fenerbahçe believe the mask could be unsafe for opponents and are preparing to formally present their concerns.

“The club’s medical team is compiling a report on equipment permitted under IFAB regulations,” the report stated.

Osimhen has worn the mask since suffering a serious facial injury during his time at Napoli in 2021.

The Nigerian striker collided with Milan Skriniar of Inter Milan, resulting in fractures to his cheekbone and eye socket.

He later underwent surgery and spent about three months recovering, with Napoli confirming that titanium plates and 18 screws were inserted during the procedure.

Following medical advice, Osimhen has continued to wear the protective mask upon his return to action.

It is now left to the Turkish Football Federation to decide on the issue ahead of Sunday’s potentially decisive title clash.

Galatasaray currently sit top of the Turkish Super Lig table with 71 points, holding a four-point lead over Fenerbahçe with four matches left to play.
