This notice, disseminated by the Lagos State Scholarship Board, indicates that scholarships will be awarded for a one-year taught Master’s programme or for doctoral studies lasting up to three years, all taking place in the United Kingdom.

The announcement was made by the ministry’s Department of Scholarship Awards, previously known as the Federal Scholarship Board, and is signed by Dr. Folake Olatunji-David, who oversees the Office of PSE on behalf of the Minister of Education.

Eligibility criteria for applicants in the Master’s category require a first degree with at least a Second Class Upper Division, while those applying for doctoral studies must hold a relevant Master’s degree alongside a minimum of a Second Class Lower Division in their first degree. Candidates are also expected to have received admission offers from at least two UK institutions and doctoral applicants must provide a supporting statement from a prospective supervisor at their chosen institution.

Additional eligibility requirements include proof of participation in the National Youth Service Corps. The selection process will focus on the following three aspects: academic merit, the development impact upon completion, and the quality of the study plan.

All applications are to be submitted through the Electronic Application System (EAS), requiring candidates to register, complete the application form online, and upload necessary documents such as scanned passport photographs, academic transcripts, birth certificates, and admission letters from UK institutions. Applicants must submit their completed applications by the specified deadline.

Post-application, candidates need to create a PDF version of their completed forms, download them, and bring a hard copy to the interview venue. It is important to note that any foreign certificates must come with official translations and evaluations. Furthermore, applicants are encouraged to consider Nigeria’s developmental priority areas relevant to their fields when drafting their study proposals. These priority areas include education, health, economic growth, governance, climate and environmental concerns, engineering, technology, and others.
