According to Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, Okediji and other police officers signalled Olusola to stop his Lexus ES 350, bearing the license plate FKJ 223 KX. Although the driver initially complied, he suddenly accelerated as Okediji approached his vehicle.
In a shocking turn of events, the driver knocked down Okediji, dragging him beneath the car for several meters despite attempts from police officers and bystanders to halt the vehicle. Okediji sustained multiple fractures and serious head injuries from the incident. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, later referred to LASUTH, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
CP Fatai confirmed that Okediji’s body was transferred to the Mainland Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while the vehicle was recovered by the police. During a media briefing, Olusola claimed that the incident was unintentional, attributing it to a brake failure. He emphasized that he did not intend to harm Okediji in any way. This incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by police forces during routine operations, highlighting the potential for unforeseen and tragic outcomes.
