According to Sani, 186,291 applicants enrolled for the test across 12 subjects.
According to him, the candidates were selected from five foreign nations, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and the 36 states of the federation. He claims that the test started on April 20 and was successfully finished on April 30, 2026.

According to Sani, the results were made public after the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting, which took place at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State, concluded successfully.
He added that Dr. Tunji Alausa, the minister of education, led the meeting, with Dr. Folake Olatunji-David, the director of basic education at the Federal Ministry of Education, serving as his representative.

He also mentioned that members of NECO management and secondary school principals from all over the nation attended the award committee meeting. According to Sani, the committee also approved the dates of July 22 and 23, 2026, for the BECE retake exam in English studies and mathematics.

He clarified that candidates with conditional deficiencies in English studies, mathematics, or both were the target audience for the retake exam.
However, he stated that the test would give impacted applicants a chance to address the shortcomings and earn the certification needed for SSS I admission and placement without having to repeat an entire academic year.
