This directive, part of the Nigeria Police Force’s operational efforts for the festive season, requires all Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General and State Commissioners of Police to amplify patrols and engage in visibility policing, intelligence-led operations, and community relations throughout this period.

CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Force spokesman, highlighted that specialized units, including the Marine Police, Police Mobile Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Command, and the Intelligence Response Team, among others, are on heightened operational readiness. These units are assigned to ensure security at various public locations such as places of worship, markets, parks, and major transport terminals, as well as monitoring critical national infrastructure and high-density areas.

Moreover, additional patrol teams and surveillance units are activated to oversee inter-state routes and major highways, aiming to deter road-related offenses, manage traffic disorders, and mitigate accidents. The directives also emphasize maintaining a balance between firmness and courtesy among deployed officers in the execution of their duties.

In tandem with heightened police efforts, the IGP has instructed a sustained crackdown on identified crime hotspots, unauthorized gathering spots in forests, and other potential flashpoints, while reinforcing collaboration with other security agencies. Furthermore, citizens are urged to stay vigilant, celebrate sensibly, and report any suspicious activities to the police through established emergency channels. This proactive approach coincides with a similar announcement from the Defence Headquarters advocating for enhanced security measures nationwide to prevent potential attacks during the holiday season.
