He stated that the police command lacks a clear explanation for the incident, suggesting that “spirituality may not be far from it.” The incident occurred on April 26, 2026, when the Area Command operatives in Effurun, following intelligence from the public, apprehended 28-year-old Mene Ogidi while he was allegedly attempting to transport a package containing a Beretta pistol and ammunition.

The police reported that the officer in charge, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nuhu Usman, violated Force Order 237 and the Nigeria Police Force’s Standard Operating Procedures by discharging his firearm, resulting in the suspect’s death.
