In an open letter dated September 28, addressed to both the APC National Chairman and the Lagos State Chairman, the group’s convener, Abiodun Fashola, underscored Ambode’s track record during his first term from 2015 to 2019, highlighting his exemplary leadership in areas such as infrastructure, public transportation, and healthcare.

Fashola’s letter articulated that Ambode’s financial acumen considerably enhanced Lagos City’s status as a leading economic hub, and his governance style, characterized by inclusivity, positioned him as a leader who engages with both stakeholders and citizens alike. The letter posited that as the APC contemplates candidates for future elections, the implications of nominating Ambode for a second term should be carefully considered, given his demonstrated effectiveness and vision which align with the APC’s goals of progress and development.

The Crusaders believe that reinstating Ambode would usher in a “new era of prosperity and innovation” for Lagos, further solidifying the APC’s reputation as a party committed to advancement. Additionally, the open letter was copied to several high-profile stakeholders, including President Bola Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila, and Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, reflecting the significant attention and support for their cause. Ambode, a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, had previously succeeded Babatunde Fashola as governor but lost his bid for a second term in 2019 after failing to secure the APC primary against Sanwo-Olu.
