In a statement released on Thursday through X, State Police Public Relations Officer SP Benjamin Hundeyin stated that the incident happened on June 29, 2024.
According to the statement, the police were notified about 2:00 pm by a concerned citizen, who then launched the rescue mission.
A young girl was reportedly trying to swallow a pesticide, according to the source.
According to Hundeyin, “police were dispatched to the scene where the girl was located and prevented from causing herself harm promptly following the tip-off.”
The woman who was saved—her identity has been kept secret out of respect for her privacy—told of the events that preceded her desperate deed.
According to reports, she acknowledged that she was going through a lot of mental pain because of two main problems: an unintended pregnancy and financial fraud.
“She disclosed that she became pregnant after a boyfriend refused to accept responsibility for the pregnancy. Her financial and emotional problems were made worse by a fraudster who had defrauded her of her revenues from her Point of Sale (POS) business, according to the police statement.
The young woman is currently getting the required psychiatric support, according to confirmation from the police.
In the meantime, a search has been initiated to locate and capture the people responsible for her situation.
The Lagos State Police Command emphasized the value of raising awareness about mental health issues once more.
Hundeyin emphasized the police force’s dedication to public safety beyond crime prevention by urging those going through similar difficulties to get assistance as soon as possible.
