This occurred in the midst of ongoing operations by Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) soldiers, which have weakened terrorist capabilities and interfered with their supply and logistics networks throughout the theatre.
In a statement posted on X yesterday, Captain Mohammed Goni, the Acting Military Information Officer of Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), revealed that the operations included coordinated ground actions, engagements against terrorist positions that were identified, and attempts to obstruct terrorist supply routes and logistics.

“During the period under review, the Theatre recorded a 213% increase in terrorist surrenders compared with the preceding week,” he stated. He claimed that the rise came after ongoing military operations against terrorist bases and supply routes in different parts of the Northeast. According to him, the increasing number of surrenders indicated that terrorist fighters and their allies were becoming more inclined to give up their activities and comply with established surrender protocols.

In a similar event, two prominent terrorists turned themselves in to the military yesterday, carrying weapons, ammo, and other military supplies.  The recovery of the weapons and ammunition, according to Goni, further demonstrated the effect of persistent military pressure on terrorist organisations.

He stated, “The recovery of these weapons and ammunition further reinforces indications that persistent military pressure is having a significant effect on the cohesion, morale, and operational sustainability of terrorist elements.”

The development, he continued, was also a sign of the terrorist elements’ declining ability to hold onto militants and continue long-term operations.  Goni reported that several terrorists surrendered to troops of the 202 Battalion in Bama on August 7, following prolonged military operations and internal conflicts within their ranks. The group was screened, and mobile phones and other items were recovered before being processed according to established procedures.

The military highlighted that the rising number of surrenders reflects the effectiveness of its comprehensive strategy, which includes offensive ground operations, precision strikes, and disruption of terrorist logistics. By limiting terrorists’ movements and replenishments, the military has restricted their operational options and diminished their capacity to conduct attacks. Goni described this trend as a result of continuous military pressure, eroding the terrorists’ capabilities, cohesion, and resolve to fight. Operation HADIN KAI remains dedicated to maintaining this pressure while providing surrender options for those who wish to leave violence behind.

The overarching goal is to weaken terrorist operations, restore security, and lay the groundwork for lasting peace in the North East. The Theatre Command also encouraged public support for military efforts through credible information and invited terrorists and their associates to abandon violence and utilize surrender channels.
