Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, representing the Accord party, alongside officials from the All Progressives Congress and the African Democratic Congress, underscored the importance of peaceful competition. John Cardinal Onaiyekan, addressing the assembly on behalf of the National Peace Committee, emphasized that the accord was crucial in fostering dialogue and trust, which are essential for a democratic environment free from violence. He urged all political players to conduct their campaigns with civility, reinforcing that the accord was a serious commitment rather than a mere formal gesture.

Prof Joash Amupitan, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), reinforced the candidates’ pledge to uphold non-violence and respect, asserting that democracy thrives in peaceful settings. He warned against any disruptions to the election, outlining that the commission has completed a major part of its electoral preparations, with over 2.3 million eligible voters registered. To ensure a secure voting process, INEC plans to deploy personnel across all local government areas, collaborating with law enforcement for proactive security measures, and warned that illegal activities such as vote buying would be met with legal consequences.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Akinyele Fasuba, assured that comprehensive security would be in place to facilitate a transparent election, determined to maintain neutrality throughout the process. Governor Adeleke voiced concerns about police harassment faced by his party, calling for unbiased policing and transparency from the electoral body, underlining the need for voters’ wishes to dominate the election outcome. The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, praised INEC’s independence and appealed for unity against violence, reiterating that the interests of Osun State supersede individual or political ambitions.
