- The Department of State Services (DSS) has confirmed the arrest and detention of journalist Zainab Sodiq
According to the DSS, Sodiq was detained over allegations that she was in possession of a drone without the required End User Certificate, a document the agency says is mandatory for the acquisition and operation of unmanned aerial vehicles in Nigeria. The agency stated that investigations are ongoing.

However, Sowore has strongly disputed the DSS’s explanation, insisting that the drone belongs to him and alleging that Sodiq’s arrest is connected to her work as a journalist covering his activities. He has called for her immediate release and described the detention as an attack on press freedom.
The incident has sparked reactions from media stakeholders, civil society groups, and human rights advocates, with renewed concerns over the safety of journalists and the protection of press freedom in Nigeria.
As of the latest reports, Zainab Sodiq remains in DSS custody while the matter continues to unfold.
