Kwankwaso welcomed Obasanjo along with Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, the NDC’s candidate for governor of Kano State.

Saifullahi Hassan, Kwankwaso’s media assistant, confirmed the visit in a statement, describing it as a chance for friendly conversations and exchanges between the political leaders.

Nevertheless, specifics of the conversations that took place in the private meeting were not made public.

The former president and Kwankwaso have a long-standing political friendship. Kwankwaso was Nigeria’s Minister of Defense from 2003 to 2007 during Obasanjo’s second stint in power.

Speculations regarding potential political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections have been heightened by the meeting, especially in light of reports indicating attempts to improve opposition cooperation.

Many people consider NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi to be a close friend of Obasanjo, who openly backed him in the 2023 presidential contest.
