The police command in Ekiti has implemented a restriction on vehicular movement throughout the state on Saturday during the governorship election, as announced by Police Public Relations Officer SP Sunday Abutu. This restriction will be in effect from midnight (12:00 a.m.) until 6:00 p.m., affecting both intra-state and inter-state roads. The measure is aimed at ensuring a peaceful and orderly election, reinforcing comprehensive security arrangements.

All forms of motorized transport—including private and commercial vehicles, trucks, tricycles, and motorcycles—are subject to this restriction. However, there are exemptions for students and candidates participating in national structured examinations and assessments, who may proceed to their examination venues.

Travelers passing through Ekiti on election day are advised to seek alternative routes. Nonetheless, accredited officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), along with ad hoc staff, journalists, election observers, medical personnel, emergency responders, and essential service providers, will be allowed to move provided they have valid identification and clearance tags.

Furthermore, the movement of VIPs with armed escorts to polling units and collation centers will not be permitted. All vigilante groups, quasi-security outfits, and volunteer organizations are also barred from offering security services during the election.

Abutu has recommended that construction companies in Ekiti should halt active road projects for the duration of the election due to safety considerations. Only recognized personnel from security agencies and organizations under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) are authorized to provide security at polling units and other election sites.

The Commissioner of Police for the Ekiti Governorship Election, CP Abayomi Shogunle, has urged registered voters to participate peacefully, assuring them of adequate security measures in place before, during, and after the election. He also called upon the public to remain law-abiding and report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
