On Monday, Real Madrid confirmed that they have acquired Spanish defender Marc Cucurella from Chelsea for an estimated 55 million euros ($63.8 million).
According to a statement from Los Blancos, “Real Madrid and Chelsea have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Marc Cucurella, who will join our club for the next six seasons, until June 30, 2032.”
The 27-year-old left-back moved to Getafe from Brighton in 2022 after graduating from La Liga winners Barcelona’s youth.
Cucurella is the only Real Madrid player in Luis de la Fuente’s roster while representing Spain in the World Cup.
After two seasons without a major prize, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez was re-elected earlier in June. This week, Jose Mourinho was named coach.
Ibrahima Konate, a defender for Liverpool, will join Los Blancos when his Anfield contract expires. They have also been linked to Bernardo Silva and Denzel Dumfries of Inter Milan.
Cucurella criticized the decision to fire Enzo Maresca in January after Chelsea’s poor season ended in 10th place in the Premier League.
Cucurella’s contract at Stamford Bridge, where he won the UEFA Conference League and Club World Cup in 2025, has two years remaining.
