He has, though, advised against having him appointed by his beloved Blues. Terry said to Stephen Hendry, a snooker legend: “From a managerial perspective, I’m finished.

“The only position for which I would leave retirement is one at Chelsea, where I could contribute in some way to the first team.”

Terry is still working for the Blues as a coaching consultant on a part-time basis.

And on it, he said: “I currently adore my job. I have some work that involves helping with the younger players.

“Furthermore, I believe that because I experienced that process as a child myself, I am imparting a wealth of knowledge to them. As a result, I am engaging in dialogues with them, which I adore.

“But I also enjoy playing golf. I want to spend some time with my family and play a little golf.”

He continued by saying that his existing family obligations would prevent him from accepting a manager position full time.

Terry stated: “I haven’t really mentioned it, but I left [Aston] Villa for family reasons.

“I had to kind of come back home and be with my family and stuff, just to kind of support them.”

In a very frank admission, the ex-Chelsea skipper even said that other coaches at Aston Villa were better at it than him.

He stated: “I always see myself as a coach in the long term.

“I enjoyed the coaching side of it but I have to say there were better coaches than me.

“We had Craig Shakespeare and Richard O’Kelly at Villa, they were better coaches than me.

“I always saw myself as a manager, but I went for a couple of jobs when I left [Villa], didn’t get those jobs and got a bit deflated with it.

“So I’ve just decided against it.”
