With this third Golden Boot, Haaland now trails only Mohamed Salah and Thierry Henry, who have won it four times in the Premier League history, after Alan Shearer and Harry Kane.
Haaland scored 19 of his Premier League goals in the first 17 games of the season, starting the season in scorching form. He scored just one goal—a penalty against Brighton—across seven games during a rare dry spell around the start of the season, during which City managed just two wins and may have lost the vital points that cost them the championship. This underscored his enormous importance to Manchester City.
For a late-season comeback, the 25-year-old scored the game-winning goal away to Liverpool and against Arsenal in last month’s eagerly awaited title match. Despite his big-game performances, the Gunners were able to win their first league title in 22 years thanks to missed points against Everton and Bournemouth.
Igor Thiago of Brentford finished second to Haaland, and his outstanding 22-goal performance earned him a spot in the Brazil national team for the 2018 World Cup. A competitive chasing group with well-known campaigns from multiple forward lines throughout the league trailed behind them.
