European stock markets rose slightly after heavy pre-weekend falls due to US economic strains, awaiting an expected interest-rate cut from the European Central Bank.

The FTSE 100 index in London increased by 0.6 percent to 8,229.58 points.

Within the eurozone, the DAX in Frankfurt increased by 0.4 percent to 18,368.13, and the Paris CAC 40 index climbed 0.4 percent to 7,380.88 points.
As inflation in the single-currency bloc returns to the European Central Bank’s two percent objective, the ECB is expected to significantly reduce the cost of borrowing for those in the eurozone on Thursday.
