JUST IN: Bayo Lawal, the former minister of youth and sports, is dead

The daughter of the former minister, Mrs. Yinka Enahoro, confirmed the death to Vanguard, according to Air Commodore Sani Zakari (rtd), the Sergeant of Arms of the National Assembly, who also mentioned that his funeral is scheduled for Monday, June 20, 24.

“AVM Bayo Lawal passed away in his sleep at the early hours of Sunday, June 24, according to additional information provided to us by AVM Frank Ajobena (rtd).”

In Offa, Kwara State, on September 14, 1941, AVM Adebayo Hamed Lawal was born. He studied from 1955 to 1962 at Government College, Ibadan.

Among the pioneers, he enlisted in the NAF in 1963. He completed his military pilot training in West Germany in 1964.

He served as Commander of the NAF Port Harcourt from 1969 to 1970 and Commander of the Enugu Air Force Base from 1970 to 1972.

He was Commander, Nigerian Air Force Base, Makurdi, 1977-78, and later appointed Military Governor of Benue State in July 1978, holding the position until October 1979. At one time he was Director Air Faculty Command and Staff College Jaji. He was later appointed Federal Minister Youth and Sports.
