According to the Force, the extradition was handled by the INTERPOL National Central Bureau in Abuja after UK authorities formally requested in September 2024 that the individual be located, apprehended, and extradited.
Anthony Placide, the Force Public Relations Officer, said in a statement on Thursday that the suspect was wanted for allegedly killing Joshua Boadu on June 18, 2018, after which he fled to Nigeria to avoid being apprehended.
Adebiyi was also charged with supplying crack cocaine, a Class-A controlled substance, in the UK between October 2017 and March 2018, he continued.
According to Placide, extradition procedures were started at the Federal High Court, Lagos Judicial Division, in Suit No. FHC/L/CS/416/2025, after the suspect was apprehended by INTERPOL NCB Abuja agents on January 23, 2025.
The statement claims that on February 16, 2026, the Federal High Court’s Lagos Division approved the extradition request in accordance with the law.
It further stated, “On April 14, 2026, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, the fugitive was formally turned over to United Kingdom law enforcement officials for diligent prosecution in accordance with the court order and the execution of a surrender warrant by the relevant Nigerian authorities.”
Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the Inspector-General of Police, reiterated the Force’s dedication to global cooperation.
Nigeria is not a safe haven for fugitives, he continued.
