The heartbreaking news was announced on Friday via X by Benjamin Kuti, popularly known as Oluomo of Derby, a former leader of the Nigerian community in the UK. According to him, Omotayo died on Sunday, April 5, leaving behind her three young children, aged 11, 9, and 7, who meant everything to her.

“It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our dear sister, Omotayo Abioye, who left us on Sunday in the UK,” he wrote. “She was a loving wife, a caring mother, and a wonderful friend who fought bravely against breast cancer until the very end.”

Oluomo described her as an exceptional person — warm, generous, and full of life. He noted that her lively spirit and kindness made her stand out, and she had a special way of bringing people together, whether through her love for dancing or her welcoming nature.

He also highlighted her unwavering faith and strength throughout her illness, saying she carried herself with grace despite the difficulties she faced.

“Her life is a true example of courage, resilience, and hope,” he added, while calling on Nigerians both at home and abroad to support her grieving family.

He further revealed that the Nigerian community in the UK has begun fundraising efforts to give her a proper burial and to support her children as they adjust to life without their mother.

Appealing to the public, he urged people to contribute through a GoFundMe campaign, stressing that every little support counts in easing the burden on the family.

“May her soul rest in perfect peace,” he concluded.
