A serving police sergeant has been arrested for allegedly supplying an AK-47 rifle used in an armed robbery in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. The incident involves the arrest of robbery suspect Justine Gbata, 30, of Doka Village, who was caught after gunmen attacked Muhammad Danka of Ankoma Village and stole his red Bajaj motorcycle on January 24, 2026, around 1:00 p.m.

The perpetrators, armed with an AK-47, fired multiple shots during the robbery before fleeing into a nearby forest with the motorcycle. Following the attack, a combined team of police operatives, vigilantes, and hunters pursued the assailants, leading to the apprehension of one suspect, who was wounded during the chase and subsequently treated at General Hospital, Doma. During interrogation, Justine Gbata revealed that the rifle used for the robbery was supplied by a police sergeant from Daudu Division in Benue State.

The sergeant has been identified and is now in detention at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Benue for further inquiries. Police authorities are continuing their efforts to apprehend the remaining gang members and recover the stolen motorcycle as the investigation progresses.
