Aliyu Hussaini of Sheka Sabuwar Abuja Quarters and Amir Zakariyya of Unguwar Malam Quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area, were found guilty on three counts of conspiracy, armed robbery, and culpable homicide by Justice Fatima Adamu.

“The defendants’ actions demonstrate complete disregard for human life.” I hereby sentence the defendants to death by hanging for culpable homicide, ten years in prison each for robbery without the possibility of a fine, and five years in jail each for conspiracy. The judge said, “May God have mercy on them.”

The court was previously informed by prosecution attorney Lamido Sorondinki that the two perpetrated the offenses on June 11, 2016, when they planned, armed themselves with machetes and knives, and attacked Imam at his home in the Sheka Sabuwar Abuja Quarters. According to him, the accused fatally stabbed the victim in the back, thigh, and stomach after robbing him of his cell phone.
To support its case, the prosecution produced three witnesses, medical records, and pictures of the deceased.

However, the court decided that the prosecution had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt, and the defendants were convicted guilty notwithstanding their denial of the allegations.
Sections 97(1), 298(c), and 221(a) of the Penal Code Laws of Kano State are violated by the offenses.

Prior to the inmates’ sentencing, defense attorney Haruna Zakariyya had asked for leniency.
