On behalf of Interior Minister Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the statement was released on Wednesday by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior.
In addition to congratulating Muslims across and abroad on the event, the government encouraged people to follow the Prophet’s example of compassion, humility, love, peace, and tolerance.
In addition, the statement urged Nigerians of all religions to support the government’s initiatives to promote development and national unity while using the occasion to pray for peace, security, and stability in the nation.
The message further said, “The Minister of Interior wishes Muslims a happy and peaceful Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration.”
Celebrated during the third month of the Islamic calendar (Rabi’ al-Awwal), Eid-ul-Mawlid honors the Prophet Muhammad’s birth. Prayers, talks, processions, and charitable deeds are all part of it.
Given Nigeria’s sizable Muslim population and longstanding custom of celebrating important Islamic holidays, the day is acknowledged as a national public holiday there.
Religious leaders and government representatives frequently utilize the occasion to advocate for peace and unity, especially during this time when Nigeria is still facing economic and security difficulties.
