Nafiu gave the praise on Monday while escorting top NYSC officers to the governor’s office at Government House in Enugu for a courtesy call.
At order to examine the NYSC permanent orientation camp at Awgu and obtain a firsthand assessment of the manner in which the orientation activities were carried out, the director-general said he was in Enugu on a working visit to the state.
According to him, the visit was also intended to evaluate the staff’s safety and well-being and to vigorously advocate with the state government in order to strengthen the mutually beneficial relationship between the two entities.
Some corps members refused to return home after their service year because they felt at home in Enugu State, which Nafiu termed as “conducive.” He revealed that 11,116 natives of Enugu state, 4,219 of whom were men and 6,797 of whom were women, were serving throughout the nation, and 5,636 natives of Enugu were serving throughout the state.
In order to promote cultural integration, Nafiu urged corps members to respect the customs, traditions, and culture of their host nations.
In an interview with reporters, Nafiu said that the program taught discipline to young Nigerians and revealed that he had given his approval for 131 corps members who had been deemed to be lacking to have their service years extended.
The public was urged to support the plan by the DG. The Awgu Permanent Orientation Camp was originally rebuilt in 1973, and the state government of Nigeria has promised to finish the project. Since the camp served as a hub for post-Civil War discussions about the 3Rs, it has symbolic meaning for Nigerians.
Mbah highlighted the NYSC program as a means for youth from various backgrounds, religions, and geographical areas to serve their nation and strengthen their patriotism. In order to ensure the welfare and safety of corps members, the state government will also offer further interventions.
Noting that corps members were supporting the state government in its development programs, the governor thanked the NYSC for the intervention the state received from the program.
“Some teach in the state’s public and private schools, and others work in hospitals,” he continued. The NYSC DG was given the governor’s word that the Awgu permanent orientation camp renovation project will be finished and operational by the end of 2025.
Lloyd Ekweremadu, the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, revealed that state service people employed in the medical field were already getting raises. He said that N20,000 would be made available to others in no time at all, while N80,000 and N40,000, respectively, were already being given to physicians and nurses.
