After serving with the team the previous season, Garba’s return to the U-17 national team represents his third stint as coach of the Golden Eaglets.
The highly acclaimed strategist notably led Nigeria to U-17 World Cup victory in 2013 and the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations trophy two years later, solidifying his position as one of the continent’s most successful junior coaches.
On the advice of the Technical and Development subcommittee, the NFF Executive Committee authorized his reappointment.
Garba has continuously developed players who have gone on to play for the senior national team and guided Nigeria to the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil.
Leading the Golden Eaglets through the WAFU B U-17 tournament, which Nigeria will host later this year, is his most recent task.
Chris Danjuma, who led the Falconets to victory in the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia, has been replaced by Aduku as the new head coach of Nigeria’s U-20 women’s national team.
Aduku, who is presently the head coach of Edo Queens, has a solid background in women’s football. She led Bayelsa Queens before joining the Falconets as an assistant coach during their 2022 U-20 World Cup quarterfinal appearance in Costa Rica.
With the Falconets playing Rwanda in a pivotal 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifying match in September and the Golden Eaglets looking to regain regional supremacy at the WAFU B tournament, also in September, both coaches are expected to formally take over this weekend as preparations get underway.
