Did you fall in love with music first?

Indeed, it was. Since I was a young child, I have loved music and knew it was what I wanted to do, even though I wasn’t sure how yet.

What was the beginning?

I used to entertain my buddies every Friday when I was at boarding school, which is where it all began. After deciding to give it my all, I would reserve that Friday for myself and my friends, entertaining them. Then, as time passed, I started to show a genuine curiosity, and Murphy, one of my friends, was the one who truly inspired me to start. I was astounded when he played me the two tracks he had recorded. That gave me the confidence to start moving on, but ironically, I took center stage before him.

Did you participate in sports as a child?

Indeed, I did. I like running and was really good at it. I continued to run until I started working full-time on music, at which point I stopped. I even took first place in a few competitions while I was a student at Creek High School and Christ the King School. I suppose I performed alright; I was a really excellent sprinter.

Have you ever considered going into sports as a career?

No, I always desired music, and I liked it. After I finished doing sports during school hours, I turned my attention to music.

What is your favorite sport?

Well, I enjoy boxing, wrestling, and sports. I get bored when I watch other sports, but I get entertained when I watch the combat sports.

Which boxers are your favorites?

Among the current boxers, I don’t have a favorite. To be honest, I’ll have to go all the way back to choose my favorites, and for me, it would be Muhammad Ali and Iron Mike Tyson.

Why did you choose Tyson and Ali over other outstanding boxers?

The reason for this is that they were fantastic; they made boxing more popular and engaging to watch, and they made the sport great by providing entertainment.

Which boxer, in your opinion, is the best of all time?

Because he flies like a butterfly and stings like a bee, Muhammad Ali is, in my opinion, the best boxer of all time. He had incredible skills.

If your children expressed an interest in combat sports, would you encourage them?

As long as they are grown, I will accept whatever decision they choose. If my kids want to accomplish anything, I have no reason to stop them because I knew what I wanted to do and I took it seriously.

Do you believe Nigeria is spending enough money on sports like boxing?

Nigeria is not making any investments in sports-related ventures. As things stand right now, the government is not supporting sports, investing in them, or even promoting entertainment in general.

What, in your opinion, can be done to improve it?

In my opinion, we have been talking nonstop for a long time, and the politicians aren’t even paying attention to us anymore because they think they are more important than the general public. We take it that they do whatever they like and whatever they want to do. Therefore, we need to continue speaking until we are heard.

Which athlete would you most like to have lunch with?

Jay Jay Okocha is someone I like, and I would like to spend some time with him just to chat about a few topics, particularly his time in Germany. Spending that time with one of the greatest football players in history would be an absolute pleasure. He is among the greatest Nigerian footballers of all time.

Are you a Super Eagles fan?

I do, indeed. Although I have little interest in football, I do have a fascination with Nigeria. I therefore only watch when the Super Eagles are playing. Despite not being a football enthusiast, I do support the Eagles.

Do you believe the Eagles can contend with the best at the World Cup and win the AFCON once more?
It relies on a lot of factors, in my opinion, particularly if they avoid playing politics in camp. I can say that they will win it if they play for the team. Just as the government plays politics, football teams do the same in camp. However, I believe we can get there if they don’t play politics and if they make things authentic. We can succeed if we have the proper coach and the right players on that team.

You listed your top boxers worldwide; do any of them come from Nigeria?

Bash Ali, Hogan Bassey, Dick Tiger, Samuel Peter, and Jeremiah Okorodudu are all men I admire, but I think my favorite is Hogan Bassey.

Regarding Anthony Joshua, what are your thoughts?

Although I believe he is outstanding and has established a solid record, I still hope to see much more from him and allow him to continue to prove that he is capable of being one of the greatest of all time. Although he has already won two world titles, we should still hope that he can accomplish more, win the title a third time, and ideally hold onto it this time.
