In a statement released on Thursday, August 22, 2024, officials stated that mescaline is a popular party drug with hallucinogenic effects similar to those of LSD and psilocybin (magic mushroom). The announcement also stated that the drug was smuggled in the packaging of fish food and branded toffees.
On August 14, the accused, who goes by Faith Racheal, was taken into custody in Delhi’s Mehrauli neighborhood.
The natural hallucinogenic mescaline is derived from the Mexican Peyote cactus and the San Pedro cactus, which are located in Ecuador and Peru. According to the authorities, meth can be found as a liquid, tablet, capsule, or powder.
Following a tip, a raid was carried out in Mehrauli on August 14. Racheal was apprehended together with a bag containing 3.8 kg of mescaline, which was hidden inside the packaging of fish meals and branded toffee, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Amit Kaushik. In August 2022, Rachael arrived in India on a medical visa.
She didn’t go back to Nigeria when her visa expired. Following her encounter with a Nigerian national, she began smuggling drugs.
She joined the drug cartel and, with the assistance of the aforementioned person who was headquartered in Nigeria, would transport consignments of illegal drugs from one conduit to another.
