Enoh, who had already voiced his opinions over Team Nigeria’s lackluster showing at the multi-sport competition, took to X on Sunday to reiterate his admission that the trip could have been more enjoyable.

“I acknowledge that our performance at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024 could have been far better, but they are over. It was insufficient to meet our goals, Nigerians’ hopes, and expectations. Part of Enoh’s statement was, “I must apologize to our compatriots and reflect on what went wrong while looking forward to the Paralympic Games, Paris 2024 (August 28–September 8).”

“In all of these, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federation, made sure that money was not a constraint. All athletes received training subsidies, early allowance payments, and conditions specific to their respective competitions. I offered to help with anything at any time during the competition. That’s why our team’s lackluster performance is perplexing. Nigerians deserve an explanation.

“As a conscientious organization, we have initiated an evaluation procedure. Within the parameters of patient confidentiality, we will assess each athlete’s competition readiness in its entirety, taking into account their injury and medical history. We’ll also look at the functions of coaches and administrative personnel.

The recently appointed minister added that sports federations were more concerned with qualifying than with getting ready for the Olympics, and that the ministry only had a few months to be ready for the games and other significant competitions.

As the Minister of Sports Development, I faced the challenge of executing four international competitions in a short time, including the AFCON, African Games, and Olympics and Paralympic Games. Despite the Olympics being less than a year away, preparations for them have not started. Medal projections were made by all federations, despite athletes still trying to qualify.
