Some of the top athletes in the world are competing for a $50,000 prize in elite categories at the Diamond League’s final tournament of the year, which started in Zurich on Wednesday and ends today. With 27 points this season, Amusan was the second-best athlete in the discipline and qualified for the competition. However, she withdrew from the final, and Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas took her place.

Charlton is in the final field, along with American trio Tonea Marshall, Grace Stark, and Kendra Harrison; defending world champion Danielle Williams and her Jamaican teammate Ackera Nugent; Dutch runner Nadine Visser; and Ditaji Kambundji of Switzerland and her compatriot Selina von Jackowski.

Amusan, who won her second Diamond League title in September 2022, also retains the meet record with a timing of 12.29 seconds.

The 28-year-old won three consecutive titles in 2021, 2022 and 2023.

After appearing to slip on the first hurdle in her most recent race in the Lausanne Diamond League, where she placed fifth in a time of 12.82 seconds, Amusan’s withdrawal could be a break to prepare for the World Championships, which are held in Tokyo next month.

In a related development, Favour Ofili, a Nigerian sprinter with ties to Turkey, was also disqualified from the women’s 200-meter competition even though she qualified.

In the meantime, Ezekiel Nathaniel, the African record holder in the men’s 400mh, is scheduled to compete in the Diamond League title in Zurich.

Last week, Nathaniel participated in an event at the Lausanne Diamond League and won in a time of 48.08 seconds, marking his first professional career victory.

Additionally, Udodi Onwuzurike, who debuted in the Diamond League last week, has been added to the men’s 200-meter final roster.
