Butawa claims that the state has a 1.1% prevalence rate and that it will concentrate its efforts on important populations.

Speaking at a workshop for journalists on Friday in Kaduna, “Wave Makers for Health and Youth Empowerment,” an NGO, announced that Dr. Nuhu Butawa, the agency’s acting executive secretary.

According to him, the state government has been concerned about the recent occurrences.

Our concern is that there were additional cases reported between January and March.

However, he added, “We are concerned that we are beginning to witness new cases not only in the state but globally. The target is to eliminate HIV by 2030 and with these new cases, we have a lot of work to be done in other to achieve that.” The state government has also begun treating sexually transmitted infections (STIs). “We have drugs for STIs now and we encourage people to come for treatment when they are tested and found with any of these diseases,” Butawa said. The state’s prevalence rate is 1.1%, and the state will concentrate its efforts on key populations.

He claims that impediments that marginalized people must overcome include cultural and religious beliefs.

“Cultural and religious norms can act as barriers to accessing the rights of marginalized persons,” Bennet-Nduka continued.

“Traditional values and practices may impede their access to adequate information, their general well-being, and their autonomy and decision-making power.”

According to him, discrimination against underprivileged people occurs in hospital settings as well.

The stigma and discrimination prevent marginalized people from seeking care and support. “Marginalized persons frequently encounter discriminatory treatment within healthcare settings. Negative attitudes from healthcare providers can lead to dismissive or disrespectful treatment,” Bennet-Nduka said.
