Afrobeats star Davido and Nigerian TikTok creator Peller were among the disappointed fans after Nigeria’s Super Eagles were knocked out of the Africa Cup of Nations by Morocco on Wednesday night.
The semifinal ended scoreless after regulation and extra time, before Morocco edged Nigeria 4–2 on penalties to book a place in the final.
Ahead of the match, Davido shared a screenshot on social media showing he had placed a $50,000 bet on Nigeria to win. That wager fell through after the Super Eagles were unable to convert their chances in the shootout.
Peller also confirmed he lost $3,000 after backing Nigeria to win within 90 minutes.
Reacting during a livestream after the game, the content creator praised the team’s effort but admitted his frustration with the outcome.
“I’ve lost my $3,000,” he said. “They played well, especially in earlier games. Maybe if I stop watching and betting, they’ll start winning again.”
Nigeria’s defeat sparked widespread conversation online, with fans, entertainers and public figures weighing in on the team’s performance and tactical decisions.
Despite the loss, the Super Eagles earned praise for holding Morocco scoreless in open play, with the semifinal ultimately decided from the penalty spot.
Morocco now advance to the AFCON final, while Nigeria will shift focus to upcoming international fixtures, including World Cup qualification matches.
