The House Committee, chaired by Hon. Ahmed Satomi, has been mandated to investigate the technical status of the Presidential Air Force (PAF) following several incidents. President Tinubu was forced to fly a chartered plane to Saudi Arabia in April, and Shettima had to make a detour due to a technical fault mid-flight. Satomi alleged a laxity in the technical management of the fleet to keep the aircraft in optimal condition for the president’s safety. The House later resolved to refer the matter to the committee for investigation and recommendation. The Committee recommended procuring two additional aircraft, considering the fragile structure of the Nigerian federation and the dire consequences of any foreseen or unforeseen mishaps due to technical/operational inadequacy of the Presidential Air Fleet. The report also recommended that this would be cost-efficient in the long run and provide a suitable, comfortable, and safe carrier for the president and vice president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The report has been forwarded to the president for action.
