The National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to take place in Abuja over the weekend, with President Bola Tinubu and members of his cabinet, 32 state governors, and 8,453 delegates expected to participate. The event aims to elect new party leaders and engage delegates in policy discussions under the theme ‘Unity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda.’ This theme encapsulates the party’s identity, accomplishments, and future trajectory.
The Co-Chairman of the Media sub-committee, Mohammed Idris, emphasized the significance of the convention as a platform for reflecting on the party’s achievements under President Tinubu’s leadership while addressing national aspirations through the Renewed Hope Agenda. This agenda serves as a guiding principle for national development and policy direction, ensuring alignment between the party’s leadership and government objectives.
All necessary arrangements have been made for a well-coordinated and transparent convention at the Eagle Square, with extensive preparations completed by the 25 sub-committees. The convention is positioned as a milestone in the party’s journey, promoting the APC’s commitment to a broad-based political platform that respects diverse viewpoints while maintaining unity of purpose.
In addressing concerns about zoning and alleged exclusions from the convention, the Chairman of the APC National Convention Central Coordinating Committee, Aminu Masari, reiterated the party’s zoning policies and confirmed no legal barriers exist. However, grievances have emerged from within the party where members, such as Fubara Dagogo, have claimed exclusion from contesting positions despite meeting all constitutional obligations. Dagogo, while not seeking legal recourse against the convention, is exploring internal dispute resolution mechanisms.
