The novelist, known for chronicling her long fight with the disease, was admitted to the hospital on Monday as part of her ongoing therapy, according to a family spokesman.

“Zoleka passed away… surrounded by friends and family,” Zwelabo Mandela stated.

She was the daughter of Mandela’s youngest daughter, Zindzi Mandela, and her first husband, Zwelibanzi Hlongwane.
Recent scans revealed “significant” development in the cancer that had impacted her hip, liver, lung, pelvis, brain, and spinal cord, according to her family.

“We mourn the loss of a beloved grandchild of Mum Winnie and Madiba,” the Nelson Mandela Foundation said on social media, referring to the Nobel Peace Prize recipient by his given name.

“Her work in raising awareness about cancer prevention and her unwavering commitment to breaking down the stigma surrounding the disease will continue to inspire us all.”
